Attic Venting in Prescott, AR
Most older houses here were built before anyone vented an attic on purpose. Adding intake and exhaust is cheap, and it buys years of roof life. Licensed and insured, working across Nevada County from Arkadelphia.
The Retrofit Problem Behind Attic Venting in Prescott
Attic venting in Prescott is usually a retrofit problem. Here is the sequence that catches out a lot of houses in this county. The home was built decades ago with a gable vent and nothing else. Somebody later added insulation to cut the power bill.
That insulation got blown right over the eaves. Whatever small amount of intake the house had is now buried, and the attic went from poorly vented to sealed.
The result is a hotter attic than before the insulation went in, and a roof aging faster than it should.
What a Starved Attic Does to a Roof
- Shingles curl and lose granules years ahead of schedule
- Decking stays damp and slowly loses its grip on nails
- Insulation mats down and stops insulating
- Upstairs rooms stay hot no matter what the thermostat says
- Nail heads rust from below and back out through the shingles
- Wood framing darkens with mold well before any leak appears
None of that shows on the outside of the roof. It shows up as a roof that only lasted fifteen years when it should have lasted twenty-five.
Why a Gable Vent Alone Is Not Enough
Air Has to Come In Low
A gable vent sits high on the wall. It can let air out, but it gives the attic no low intake, so very little actually moves.
Soffit Vents Are the Missing Piece
Cutting intake at the eave is what turns a static attic into a moving one. Warm air leaves the peak and pulls fresh air in behind it.
Baffles Keep It That Way
Without a baffle between the rafters, the next round of insulation blocks the new intake all over again. We set baffles so the fix stays a fix.
Gable and Ridge Together Can Backfire
Leave the gable open after adding a ridge vent and the ridge may pull from the gable. It should be pulling from the soffits. Sometimes the right move is closing something.
What We Do About It
- Soffit intake cut and installed where there is none
- Buried intake dug out and baffled
- Continuous ridge vent installed along the peak
- Static and turbine vents corrected, replaced or removed
- Bath and kitchen fans routed outside rather than into the attic
- Metal roof ventilation handled with the right ridge and eave closures
How the Visit Goes
- Attic first. We look before we quote.
- We measure the space. Attic square footage sets the vent area you need.
- We count what you have. Real intake, real exhaust, not what is on paper.
- You get the gap in plain numbers. What exists, what is needed, what it takes.
- We correct it. Usually one visit, and often alongside other roof work.
Long Summers and Why This Matters Here
Southwest Arkansas summers are long and damp. An attic here spends five months hot and humid rather than a few weeks.
So venting is not a nice idea here. It is often what decides whether your roof reaches twenty years.
Homes around Laneburg, Cale and Boughton often have the oldest venting we see. Those houses were added to over decades rather than rebuilt.

★★★★★This company sent a sales agent to my very rural lakehouse to give me an estimate. He was very professional, precise, and knowledgeable. Within hours, he sent a quote with a color chart. The price was very reasonable and below what I have read on other research pages. The installation process started within days with the actual owner helping with the install. It was more than just "another" install. The service provided made it feel like a friendship with high standards. They even flowed water through the system to make sure the downspouts cleared the water efficiently and adjusted if needed. Extremely recommend this company. Complete installation on a 2500 sq home took less that 3 hours. Thank you Nate and Steve for a job well done!

★★★★★I recently had gutters installed. Where the flexible part went into my french drain was a little crooked. I told him it was good enough and it didn't warrant completely redoing the gutters. He insisted that good enough wasn't good enough. He replaced the whole front gutter again and moved the new one he took down to the back of my house. I would recommend Ark roof and gutters to everyone. He definitely goes above and beyond to make sure his customers are 100% satisfied

★★★★★We were referred to Ark R&G. Steve Kalasz contacted us very quickly. Greatly appreciated and he was on property within 2 days. His professionalism and customer care stood out. He was very thorough. Walked around with my husband so everyone was on the same page. He took his time to explain and answer all of our questions. He did not pressure us. We said we would like to think about it after having met a few other company reps. We decided to go with Ark R&G. If I had known better I actually would have thought Steve was part owner of the company that's how well spoken and how he presented himself as part of the team and their commitment to customer satisfaction 5☆

★★★★★When we started looking at roof repairs/roof replacement I contacted 3 companies to do an inspection and give me a quote. We ended up going with Ark Roofing and Gutters LLC because Nate was personable, knowledgeable, quick to answer questions/provide support and was not a pushy salesman. He gave us the facts and allowed us to make the decision on having a repair vs a replacement based on our goals, wants and needs. The whole process from initial phone call to completing the roof replacement was very fast and exceeded our expectations. I highly recommend this company.

Attic Venting in Prescott FAQs
My house only has a gable vent. Is that a problem?
Usually yes. A gable vent gives you exhaust with almost no intake, so very little air actually moves.
We added insulation and the upstairs got hotter. Why?
The insulation probably covered your eave intake. It is the most common thing we find up there.
Do I need soffit vents if I have a ridge vent?
Yes. A ridge vent with no intake pulls conditioned air out of your house instead.
Can this be done without a new roof?
Yes. Most venting corrections are standalone work.
Does it help in winter too?
Yes. Moving air keeps moisture from condensing on the underside of the decking.
Do metal roofs need venting?
Yes, and the details differ. Ridge and eave closures do the job that a shingle ridge vent does.
Will it lower my power bill?
It usually helps in summer, because the upstairs stops fighting a superheated attic all day.
My bathroom fan vents into the attic. Should I worry?
Yes. That is a shower's worth of moisture under your roof every morning, and we can reroute it.
